Green, N. 2006 . "Everyday Life Essay

The one area in which this field study truly excelled was in the writing style and abilities that the researcher employed in the preparation of her dissertation. Though not especially persuasive or convincing due to the above-identified issues of a lack of clarity and focus, the language used was very clear and direct, presenting each idea, observation, and experience of the researcher quite clearly even if the unification of these individual ideas, observations, and conclusions remains elusive. There was also a clear trajectory in the qualitative description and analysis that is employed in the writing of this dissertation, and though many different forms of qualitative research were used and no single form of standard qualitative research presentation was used in this dissertation, there is a clear and adequate organization and construction of this dissertation that would have been strengthened still further by a clearer focus and more...

This created an odd mix with the highly personal and at times almost conversational tone of the dissertation; very little symbolic language was used, but though the concepts and issues discussed were presented in a non-abstract if still unclear and ill-defined manner there was a definite attempt on the part of the author to connect personally with her readers. This raises questions as to the appropriateness of the study for its intended readers; as this was meant to be an effective examination of certain issues facing Australian education in the present day, a more academic tone -- along with more rigorous application of standard research and dissertation techniques -- is definitely warranted.
